Medina Foodservice Sponsors the IW Radio Local Heroes Emergency Services Award

On Thursday Medina Foodservice were delighted to support the award for Emergency Services at the Local Heroes event hosted by Isle of Wight Radio.

The glitzy ceremony gives people a chance to show their appreciation by nominating the unsung heroes of the Island. Categories cover everything from sports person, fundraiser and tourism ambassador to volunteers, carers and inspirational leader.

On the night, the award for the Medina Foodservice Emergency Service Local Hero went to the incredible team at Wight SAR (Search and Rescue). Wight SAR provide skilled volunteers to assist Hampshire Constabulary and other agencies in searches for vulnerable missing persons on the Isle of Wight and rely on donations from the public and support from sponsors to fund their team.

What makes this award even more special is that our Managing Director, Steve Ross, actually got to present it to one of our colleagues, Chris Jeffrey, who has assisted Wight SAR in their work for a considerable number of years.

That’s right, we have heroes working here!

New Community Access Defibrillator Installed

Malcolm Lake of Buywise, Rob Hobbs of Medina Foodservice, Mark Lee of Lifeline and Jack Gorman from Premier Ford

A new community access defibrillator has been installed at Lifeline Fire & Security outside of their offices at Riverway, Newport by Lifeline and Medina Foodservice, with support from Buywise and Premier Ford.

This now makes it possible for even more people to respond to a medical emergency around the Riverway area where a defibrillator is required and part of an increasing network of Defibrillators across the Island.

Over 30,000 people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest at home or in public places, in the UK each year. If a defibrillator is used and CPR is performed within 3 to 5 minutes, the chances of survival are dramatically increased from 6% to 74%.

These shocking statistics led Jean Lee, Director of Lifeline and Steve Ross, Managing Director of Medina Foodservice to reach out to Buywise and Premier Ford, to help provide towards the funding for the new unit.  Jean comments: “Having access to a defibrillator can help to improve survival outcomes for sudden cardiac arrest, so I felt that it was our social responsibility to provide a defibrillator for the local community and base this at Lifeline.” Read more →
